How do Triton Electric Showers Work?
Triton Electric Showers draw on a mains cold water supply and heat the water on demand. Unlike Mixer Showers they do not require you to plumb both hot and cold water to the unit. Choose a higher kilowatt rating for better flow performance. You have a choice of 7.5kw, 8.5kw, 9.5kw and 10.5kw. Make sure you check the thickness of your cabling and the amperage on your fuse board before you select your shower of choice. Some Triton electric showers also have thermostatic temperature control for an electric shower which regulates water temperature to your needs, regardless of other water usage in the household.

What is an electric shower?
While each electric shower model has its individual features they all heat water in the same way. Understanding the basic principles of how a Triton electric showers work will help you choose the correct model and get the best performance from your Triton shower.
Cold water is drawn into the unit and heated by one or more powerful electric elements as it passes through the unit increasing the temperature. Once from your shower it will decrease the flow of water through the showerhead this is because the water needs to stay in the unit longer for the elements to heat it to your increased temperature requirements. Decreasing the temperature will increase the flow of water through the Triton showerhead as the water is heated to the required temperature quicker and therefore flows through the unit faster.
This is not the only thing that can influence the flow of water through on your showerhead. Things like the electricity supply voltage the kilowatt rating of a shower and the incoming temperature of your cold water all affect the flow of water. For example expect the flow rate to change with the seasons during winter the cold mains water supply will make it harder for the shower engine element to warm up water to the required temperature and as a result water flow will be a little lower. During the summer months when the cold water entry shower is warmer the flow rate will be higher. A 10.5kw electric shower will heat the water faster than a 7.5kw electric shower due to the higher capacity element. So the higher the KW shower generally the better performance you will receive.
Finally I'm sure at some point you have experienced a small spike in the water temperature while showering? This is because the electric shower is a temperature stabilized shower and is only able to maintain the water temperature to within 5 degrees Celsius when there is a pressure change in the incoming water supply.
For example if someone turns a cold tap on elsewhere in the house or flushes the toilet the cold water pressure to the shower will drop reducing the flow of water and resulting in an increase in the water temperature.
If your cold water supply has a large demand from elsewhere in the household, for example extra showers, washing machines, dishwashers etc then maybe you should consider a Triton thermostatic electric shower. These showers can maintain the water temperature to within one to two degrees Celsius. They can do that not only when your water pressure changes but also when the incoming temperature of your cold water or electric supply voltage changes.
What are the main features of a Triton Electric Shower?
If you're looking for an electric shower but you're confused by the descriptions or product features listed on our Buyaparcel website then let us try and help you pick the right Triton shower for your requirements.
We will cover some of the key features of an electric shower whether you're looking to replace an existing Triton electric shower or choosing one for new installation
There's a wide range of Triton electric showers available and all work in the same way they don't use preheated
water. The majority of Triton Electric showers require mains cold will supply and obviously all require an electric supply. If you have low or erratic mains water pressure then you'll need a Triton Pumped Electric Shower which must be fed from a cold water tank.
When an electric shower is turned on cold water enters the shower and is instantly heated which means you don't need to use any stored hot water and there's no wasted energy. Another plus is an electric shower is always available on demand 24 hours a day even if your hot water system breaks down.
To control the showering temperature electric showers are either temperature stabilized or thermostatic. The advantage of a thermostatic shower is more advanced temperature control which means even if other taps are turned on your selected sharing temperature remains virtually constant. This will mean no sudden or unexpected temperature changes for greater sharing comfort so for peace of mind for all. Those with family it's always worth considering the option of a Triton thermostatic electric shower.
Before we look at the operating features of an electric shower another consideration is the power rating, which is the flow rate you will get from an electric shower. This will depending on a few factors but primarily the kilowatt
rating of your electric shower. The higher the rating of the shower the greater the flow of heated water is any given. There are different supply requirements depending on which KW shower you opt for as we cover below.
Depending on the cost of the Triton electric shower you will get different features on the unit. However even the most basic Triton electric showers have a control to adjust the showering temperature either hotter or cooler. Most Triton showers have a power control to select maximum heat setting for optimum flow rate from the shower and an economy heat setting if you want to save energy during the summertime. Most electric showers will also have a cold setting for rinsing. To turn off some showers there is an off position on the power selector however on other models in addition to the power and temperature controls there is a separate start/stop button. With just one simple press this button will start or stop an electric shower so you can leave your temperature set ready for the next time you use a shower.
Other features you're likely to find are a power on light indicating the electricity is on at the isolation switch and a low pressure indicator which can be mechanical or a light both operate when there is a lack of water pressure coming into the shower showers.
Some more premium Triton Electric Showers have digital LCD displays and can advise of everything from low pressure to shower temperature. Additional features can include a clean easy shower head and phased shut down. Triton Electric Showers with phase shutdown allow the water to continue to run for a few seconds flushing out any remaining hot water before turning off. This process helps reduce scale buildup in the electric shower if you live in a hard water area and have no form of inline scale reducer or a water softener.
The latest Triton electric shower innovations are touch sensitive controls for ease of operation and remote control
electric showers. With Triton remote control showers the slimline control panel remains in your sharing area
but the heater unit can be fitted out of sight for example in an airing cupboard or a loft because the heated water
supply to the showerhead can simply run through wall or through the ceiling and directly into the riser rail. These are also available with Triton wireless technology as part of the Triton Smart Electric Shower range.
One of the main benefits of these Triton Remote Electric Showers and Triton Wireless Electric Showers are there is no need to channel into the wall to bury a cable or pipe which means you don't have to disturb existing tiles
Whatever you're looking for in a Triton electric shower whether it's a choice of colours from the Triton Aspirante Range or the Triton Amore Range or indeed just a replacement shower or a new installation here at Buyaparcel we have many models to suit your style and budget with some of the best price Triton Showers online.
How do i know what KW Triton Electric Shower i need?
Triton electric showers are still one of the most popular types of shower sold in the UK today which is why triton
manufactures an extensive range to suit all tastes and budgets. if you haven't already noticed they come in a variety of different KW ratings from 7kw up to as high as 10.5kw but what does this mean?
Basically the higher the current rating the higher the flow of water from your shower head. For example a 7.5kw Triton electric shower giving a 40 degree Celsius shower in the winter will deliver a flow rate of around 3 litres per minute. By comparison a 10.5kw Triton electric shower can give 50% more flow from a shower head than a 7.5 kilowatt shower.
If you are thinking about replacing your Triton shower you'll need to check out a few things before you choose a higher kilowatt rating. You'll need to check the water pressure and flow rates the rating of the miniature circuit breaker or fuse in your consume unit and the size of the electric cable running to your shower.
*A 7kw electric shower for example is likely to need 1 bar of water pressure delivering 8 litres of water per minute through the shower. It will also need an MCB rated at 32 amp and a cable size of 6 millimetre squared.
*A 10.5 kw electric shower will need 1.5 bar water pressure delivering 11 litres per minute to be shower. It will also need an MCB rated at 45amp and a cable size of 10 millimetre squared
You therefore you may need to upgrade your showers electrical system to support a high kilowatt shower
* This is only a rough guide. Always speak to your electrician before upgrading your Triton Electric Shower
